The Department of Philosophy continues their collaboration with the School of Computing via the Embedded Ethics program.
Lecturer Adam Thompson leads the group, and graduate students Henrique Cassol Leal and Youmin Kim, known as "veterans," are currently volunteer associates mentoring newer members ("novices") Michael Hyde and Juncheng Mu. The veterans also develop and present an ethics module for an assigned course and are assisting Thompson with a report, "Embedding Ethics in Computer Science and Information Technology Classroom: A Cooperative Model."
Thompson founded the program with alumnus and PhD student Colton Harper in 2019. Funding was provided by a grant from the Center for Transformative Teaching and a grant from the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation, as well as the department and the school.
The interdisciplinary program aims to raise ethics literacy for computer science and engineering students and faculty, provide teaching experiences, and establish relationships at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) and abroad.
