Joseph Mendola and the cover of his book Experience and Possibility

Joseph Mendola, professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will have his newest book published by Oxford University Press in January of 2021.

Ontology is the study of being, and Experience and Possibility concerns the modal ontology of experience. It investigates the metaphysics of the concrete properties and spatial and temporal relations present in our experience of ordinary objects, revealing inadequacies of traditional ontology. The book's unique focus is on the modal aspects of such experienced entities and what it reveals about modality in general.

Mendola teaches graduate courses in ethics, metaphysics, and philosophy of mind. His previous books with Oxford University Press include Anti-Externalism and Human Interests.

Philosophy is a humanities area of the College of Arts and Sciences.
